Have you say on proposed parking changes in East Grinstead

Following a public consultation held earlier this year, West Sussex County Council is now asking for comments on proposals to introduce a new Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) in parts of East Grinstead. The proposals also include some changes to roads within the existing scheme.

A CPZ is an area of streets where parking is controlled through the day. Residents, local businesses and their visitors are given priority to park by purchasing permits or vouchers. This can also improve road safety, reduce congestion and prevent obstructions to private driveways by removing indiscriminate parking.

A consultation was held at the beginning of the year to ask people for their views on the operation of the scheme. Around 5,000 questionnaires were distributed to test whether there was public support for any changes. As a result a number of proposals have been put forward.

Pieter Montyn, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “We have listened to the comments received earlier this year from residents and businesses and have put forward proposals which we hope will help improve the parking situation in the town and its surrounding areas.

“We want to reduce congestion and access difficulties and free the roads up from all-day parking by commuters and shoppers to improve traffic flow.”

From today (Monday September 19) letters, along with plans of the proposals and a comments card, will be posted to every resident affected by the proposals.

There will also be a series of drop-in sessions, where residents can discuss the proposals directly with County Council officers.

Sessions will be held at East Grinstead Library in West Street on Saturday September, 24 between 10am and 1pm, and Thursday September 29, between 10am and 3pm.

A further drop-in session will be held at Halsford Park Primary School in Manor Road, East Grinstead, on Thursday September 29 between 6pm and 8pm.

Plans of the proposals will also be made available for viewing at East Grinstead Library and at the Town Council offices.

The closing date for comments on the proposals will be Monday October 10
