HENFIELD CRICKETERS HONOUR PLAYER WITH FUNDRAISER FOR BHF

HENFIELD Cricket Club players faced a President's Eleven on Sunday to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation in memory of a player who died last year.

Mark Smith, of Upper Beeding, was remembered with a minute's silence by players. He died, aged 49, during a match a year ago.

Since then the club has been presented with a heart defibrillator by HART (Henfield Area Response Team).

Audrey Smith, Mark's wife, has worked with her family and club members to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

A Henfield CC team is entering the London to Brighton bike ride for the BHF this Sunday.

More than £1,000 has been raised so far by the bike riders.

Audrey, at the fund-raising match with daughters Nicola and Lindsay (son Anthony is in Australia), said: "We are very grateful for everyone who has taken part.

"Although the weather rained off the match after a short period of play, everyone had a good time with a barbeque in the evening."

Henfield CC president Tony Adfield said: "We may have suffered a tragedy but something positive has come of it which is a great comfort to Mark's family and friends."
